The winners of The Plan Handicap, Beehive Futurity, Idaho Cup Futurity and the runner-ups in the The Plan and Bitterroot Futurity are among the 10 horses that will compete in the richest running ever of the $113,900 Wild West Futurity tonight at Los Alamitos.

Robert Hickman’s Margaritas N Coronas, who gamely held off Checkspeed by a head in The Plan on September 16, was all business once again in the Wild West trials. He posted the fastest qualifying time on trial night of :17.547 at 350 yards. Based on that terrific effort, the Washington-bred son of Corona Czech will head the Wild West final while looking to give Hickman and trainer Bret Vickery a second straight victory in this race. This trial also produced top Wild West contenders Checkspeed, owned by J.P. Sample and Emily Lawrence, and Beehive Futurity winner BF Memory Lane.

Spackman Racing and Lin Melton’s Dynasty Red, the runner-up in the Bitterroot on May 28, also figures to be a factor in the Wild West final after posting the second fastest qualifying time of :17.650. The Mexico-bred sprinter was third in the Northwest Juvenile Challenge held at Les Bois on July 6. Another key runner is Stan Young’s Eagle Nation, who has posted several nice efforts in her California stay. The Stoli filly won her trial by a neck over Travis and Wendy Saxton’s One Famous Secret and already has a bulk of racing experience at Los Alamitos after starting out at Laurel Brown Race Track. Idaho Cup Futurity winner The Midnite Caller is another of the big names racing in the richest running ever of the Wild West.
