AUBURN, WASH. * The Washington Horse Racing Commission has approved a 101-day race schedule for the 2005 Emerald Downs live-racing season.

Opening Day will be on Friday, April 15. Closing Day is set for Sunday, Oct. 16.

"We believe this will be the best year ever for racing in Washington," Emerald Downs President Ron Crockett said. "We have increased our race dates this year, as well as increased our daily purses, substantially. In addition, we have several new and exciting special race dates on tap for the new season."

The 101-day meet will run three days per week (Fri.-Sun.) during the months of April and May. The schedule will then shift to four days per week (Thurs.-Sun.) during the months of June, July and August.

During the months of September and October, Emerald Downs will have five special Monday race dates * providing fans with a Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday racing week during the last two months of the season.

First-race post times on Mondays will be 5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays will be 6 p.m. and Weekends will be 2 p.m.

Emerald Downs will also continue to provide multiple-card simulcasting throughout the 2005 season.

The 2005 stakes schedule will be released on Jan. 26.
