Another hero’s welcome awaits jockey sensation Mario Gutierrez when he returns to Hastings Racecourse to ride St Liams Halo in the $50,000 Lieutenant Governors’ Handicap on Monday, July 2. “He may have other rides, we’ll wait and see,” says Glen Todd, owner of St Liams Halo and Mario’s mentor.

St Liams Halo won the Lieutenant Governors’ last year with Gutierrez in the irons. In two starts this season, St Liams Halo has finished second in both the Sir Winston Churchill and John Longden 6000. Also on the Canada Day July 2 card is the $50,000 Chris Loseth Handicap.

“He’ll be back for BC Cup Day on August 6 and will have several mounts,” Todd added.

BC Cup Day, one of the highlights of the Thoroughbred season at Hastings, showcases six stakes races exclusively for BC-breds with purses totaling over $325,000.
