Highlighting the back-to-back Saturday/Sunday cards this weekend is the $50,000 Vancouver Sun Stakes on Fatherís Day Sunday, with a field of seven fillies and mares going 1-1/16 miles. The early favorite is Overvalued after winning the Brighouse Belles on May 21. Wando Woman won the Vancouver Sun last year and is back to defend her title. Also in the lineup is the 2011 Ballerina winner Orchids Silver.

The annual Fatherís Day hole-in-one contest will take place in two heats after the 5th and 6th races Sunday. While supplies last, patrons will be given a special Hastings cap with the purchase of a live racing program that includes an accompanying coupon. The hat giveaway begins at 12:45 in front of the winnerís circle on the Hastings Racecourse tarmac.

Marioís coming home to ride July 2

Owner Glen Todd has confirmed that Mario Gutierrez will be back at Hastings Racecourse to ride in the Holiday Monday July 2 Canada Day card, one of the showcase events of the local Thoroughbred season. Two $50,000 stakes are on the agenda: the Lieutenant Governors and the Chris Loseth. Todd has indicated that Mario will ride St Liams Halo in the Lt-Governors and Taylors Deal in the Loseth. Both horses are trained by Troy Taylor.
