While his namesake begins his highly publicized training camp as a new quarterback for the New York Jets, the horse Tebow Time is one of the favorites for the Inaugural Stakes on opening weekend at Arapahoe Park. A winner of two in a row at Fonner Park in Nebraska, the 3-year-old owned by the Rushton Farms, trained by Temple D. Rushton and to be ridden by Vince Guerra takes on nine others in Sunday’s $40,000 race for 3-year-olds at 6 furlongs.

Tebow Time’s main rivals include Mark Sanchez ( . . . sorry, wrong Tebow!) include A Political Time, winner of three of his last five, including two stakes races at Turf Paradise; and Tulsa Te, one of the top 2-year-olds at Arapahoe last year, winning the CTBA Futurity.

Opening day on Saturday, which features free admission, features the $20,000 Cobra Distaff Sprint for Arabian breed fillies and mares at 6 furlongs and three trials to the Adequan Arapahoe Park Derby Challenge for Quarter Horses. The Cobra Distaff Sprint matches 4-year-old gray filly Ms Dixie, a speedy winner of the Grade 2 Texas Yellow Rose at Sam Houston, making her Arapahoe debut against Lori Anne and Victorias Zell, the second- and third-place finishers of this race, respectively, last year.

The 10 fastest qualifiers in the three trials to the Adequan Arapahoe Park Derby Challenge at 400 yards qualify for the June 9 finals. The strongest trial on paper looks to be the first, which matches Ivory Riches, who ran one of the fastest 330-yard times ever as a 2-year-old on opening weekend here last year, against Wave Good Bye Baby, third in the 2011 Rocky Mountain Futurity at Arapahoe, and Feelin The Fever, a winner of four of five career races in Alberta, Canada, including the $50,000 Alberta Breeders Futurity.

Coming off increases in attendance and wagering handle in 2011, Arapahoe Park in will conduct 39 days of horse racing in 2012 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, along with Memorial Day Monday. First post time for the daily nine-race card of Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, and Arabian races is at 1:00 p.m.

The meet is highlighted by the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity at 6 furlongs for 2-year-old Thoroughbreds on August 19. For Quarter Horses, Arapahoe Park features the $150,000 Mile High Futurity at 400 yards for 2-year-olds on August 19 and the $75,000 Mile High Derby at 400 yards for 3-year-olds on August 18.
