Paul Ryneveld, Director of Racing at Hastings Racecourse, is pleased with the average field size this season—7.7 starters per race.

In an effort to keep the horses-per-race average high, “Friday Night Live” racing has been moved from its originally scheduled May 25 start to June 1. With Victoria Day racing on this coming Monday, May 21, racing next Friday would have meant running four days in one week, and six days in a nine-day span (May 19 to May 27).

Hastings management, the Horsemen’s Benevolent Protective Association (HBPA) and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) made the joint decision to begin “Friday Night Live” racing on June 1.

The day could be rescheduled for a Friday evening toward the end of the season.
