After his stunning victory in the 138th Kentucky Derby on May 5, jockey Mario Gutierrez will be taking a few days off from riding at Hollywood Park in Southern California to enjoy some R&R with friends, family, and fans in Vancouver, B.C.

Mario left Hastings Park late in 2011 to try his luck on the SoCal circuit—and, in a hard-work-meets-fairy-tale outcome, to pair up with his Derby mount. (See our story in the June 2012 issue of TRJ. On Sunday, May 13, Mario will make an appearance at Hastings. A press conference has been scheduled for noon and Gutierrez will meet with fans on the tarmac in front of the winnerís circle at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time. The eight-race live race card begins at 1:50 p.m.
