Spackman Racing and Larry Chapple's Fdd Catena leads a strong field in the $10K Dixie Downs Derby, while Dan and Patricia Baker's Virtual Moves looks like a standout in the $30K Dixie Downs Futurity on Saturday. (Note: purses listed are estimated purses.)

Fdd Catena was the fastest qualifier from three trials held on April 7, but the filly will have a lot of company at the wire. Her final time of :17.623 for 350 yards was good for a 104 speed index, but she'll have to face Veyron and Alittlebitofivory, who both posted 103 SI's.

Also competitive in the trials were Rare Wave with a 102 SI and Tw Jesse with a 101.

Fdd Catena will break from post #3 in the Derby, with Jesse Chavis aboard for trainer Lin Melton.

Seven trials were also held on April 7 for the 2012 Dixie Downs Futurity, in which Virtual Moves ran far and away the best race of the day. The colt's time of :15.528 for 300 yards was about a length better than second-fastest Makn A Legacy's :15.675.

Uriel Dominguez, who piloted the winners of both the Derby and Futurity in 2011, gets the mount for trainer Ron Moosman.

First post for the five-race card is 1:00 p.m.
