Last-minute donation saves NRQHA incentive program

Skyrocketing costs for jockey insurance coupled with severely reduced state funding support and the never-decreasing costs of putting on a live meet wiped out the 2012 NRQHA budget even before the season opened. (Opening day is this coming Saturday, April 21.) It looked like horsemen would be running on a a purse-only basis, instead of looking forward to the added competition of the NRQHA incentive program that adds moneys to races at the live meet.

But when longtime Quarter Horse owner/breeder and part-time Kennewick resident Abigail Kawananakoa heard that the incentive program was bankrupt, she stepped up and offered her support—and significant financial backing.

Kawananakoa's $20,000 donation saves the incentive program that gives NRQHA members access to added purse monies. Only current members of NRQHA can qualify for the incentives, so make sure your membership is current before the first horse enters the gate at SuD! (NRQHA members also receive a discounted price on subscriptions to TRJ—The Racing Journal, official magazine of the organization.)

To join or renew your membership in the Northern Racing Quarter Horse Association, see Nancy, Nellie, or Ginny at the track, or call Ginny at (509) 582-7924.
