Derive will look to continue his local unbeaten streak when he heads a field of ten in the $75,000 Phoenix Gold Cup on Saturday at Turf Paradise. Two supporting turf stakes—the $35,000 Turf Paradise Handicap and the $35,000 Sun City Handicap—are also scheduled for Saturday.

The Phoenix Gold Cup, which is celebrating its 56th renewal, will be run at six furlongs.

Derive, who’s a perfect four-for-four at Turf Paradise, including a wire-to-wire win in the Swift Stakes, is trained by Robertino Diodoro and will be ridden by leading rider Jorge Carreno. The 6-year-old son of Cozzene, installed as the morning-line second-favorite at 7-to-2, has won six of 20 lifetime starts, finishing in-the-money of 15 of those efforts.

Saratoga Boot, the 3-to-1 morning-line favorite, winner of the Cotton Fitzsimmons Mile and second n the Swift Stakes, attracts regular rider Anne Von Rosen for trainer Mike Chambers.

The Turf Paradise Handicap, at 1-1/16 miles on the grass, features three multiple stakes winners in Eldaafer, Double Shuffle, and All Saint among the field of seven.

The Sun City Handicap, at one mile on the turf, has Rare Sunset, a winner of four of her last five efforts locally, the tough competitor Hard Seven and California shipper Ambitioness among the field of nine fillies and mares.
