The Grade 1 $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap, to be held at Los Alamitos on Sunday, January 8, attracted a full field of 10, led by highweight Fovee. The Charger Bar Handicap is one of the premier races for older mares in the nation and is named in honor of the 1973 World Champion and Champion of Champions winner.

Robert Gentry’s Fovee, winner of the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap last year, has been assigned the 125 pound highweight for the 400-yard Charger Bar. Fovee was the only mare to compete in last year’s Champion of Champions. The daughter of Cuvee won two of three starts and earned nearly $100,000 in 2011. She is one of three mares from the barn of Juan Aleman to be nominated to the Charger Bar. Aleman’s other nominees are multiple Los Alamitos stakes winner Chalala and Gentry’s Fredaville. They were both assigned 123 pounds.

Four distaffers will carry 124 pounds, including Johnny Trotter’s Las Damas Handicap winner Dash Back Perry. Alvin Jonas’ two-time Blane Schvaneveldt Handicap winner Sheza Bad Habit, stakes winner Azshecanfly and Mimi Wells’ Getit Together have also been assigned 124 pounds. PCQHRA Breeders Derby winner Onemoreglassofwine is also entered.
