Story by Jason Beem, Portland Meadows, and TRJ staff

Join us at Portland Meadows for our biggest day of the season on Sunday, December 11, for Oregon Championship Day. We'll showcase some of the top horses in Oregon competing for some of the biggest purses we offer all season long. First post time is at 12:00 p.m. and, as always, parking and admission at Portland Meadows is always free.

As part of Oregon Championship Day, we'll be giving away a free Voodoo Doughnut and free cup of Ristretto Roasters Coffee to the first 1,000 people to join us on Oregon Championship Day. What better way to enjoy two of Oregon's best local products, than at Oregon's best day of horse racing.

There’s a jockey autograph session before the races, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., where you can meet and talk with some of outstanding riders here at Portland Meadows.

Portland Meadows is once again hosting a wonderful buffet that consists of three wonderful courses in our 3rd Floor Turf Club for just $35. With the buffet, you get your own private table, private television, as well as a free 2011 commemorative Oregon Championship Day t-shirt.

On the track there will be five stakes races exclusively for Oregon-bred runners. The co-features include the $15,000 Bill Wineberg Stakes and the $15,000 Janet Wineberg Stakes. The Bill Wineberg showcases the top 2 year old Oregon-bred runners, while the Janet Wineberg is for the 2 year old fillies. The $10,000 Oregon Hers pits the top 3-year-old Oregon-breds against one another, while the $10,000 Oregon Hers is for the 3-year-old ladies.

One of the most popular events each year is the $10,000 Lethal Grande Oregon Sprint Championship which features the fastest sprinters on the ground competing at 6 furlongs.

In addition to the five stakes races, five other races feature Oregon-breds:

• $5K Starter Handicap for Thoroughbred fillies
• $5K Starter Handicap for Thoroughbred colts and geldings
• $3.2K Starter Allowance for Quarter Horses
• Quarter Horse Maiden
• Thoroughbred Claimer
