PORTLAND, OR - Saturday afternoon at Portland Meadows, three qualifying trials were run in search of the top ten fastest finishers in order to be eligible to compete in the $10,000 added 2004 Far West Futurity final, Saturday December 18.

In the opening heat, Ron Raley's One Fast Trick, under Twyla Beckner, offered no surprises as they drew clear of the field immediately and were never headed. Winning by a length and a half in :20.34, it served as the afternoon's second fastest time in the four hundred yard dash.

The Dash Ta Fame filly, whose chance of a $100,000 Oregon Quarter Horse Triple Crown bonus was thwarted in her last start, paid a meager 20 cents on the dollar to win. Others in the initial heat who qualified were Kylee Can Dance, Raining Fresh Daisys, Cocos Chasin Chicks and Famous Phil.

In the second heat, Beckner picked up the mount on Jimmy Glenn Jr.'s CR Start Your Injuns in lieu of the injured Debbie Hoonan. Although the pair went off as the even money favorite, Beckner didn't have it as easy this time and had to work a little harder.

Bumped repeatedly and found trailing the likes of Cash Goes Ka Cheng and Rotin Totin Cowgirl in the early going, a fiercely determined drive by Beckner was enough to get the better of the seven horse field just in time. Winning by a head in a tepid :20.89, CR Start Your Injuns was
the only one in his heat to finish in the top ten qualifiers for the final, narrowly edging Famous Phil (:20.90) who finished fifth in the initial heat.

Heat three however saw Jazzn Boots blister through the four hundred yard test in :20.26. It was the afternoon's fastest recorded time. Under Brian James Theriot, Jazzn Boots drew clear from the start and never looked back. Winning by the largest margin of the three trials by two
and a half lengths, the two year old son of Spanish Boot out of Jazzing Pink returned $23.80 for the win. Odds on favorite Easy Kipa Dash finished second.

Following is a list of the top ten qualifiers and their respective race times.
