OTOBA charity auction honors Taketa, benefits horsemen

A memorial charity auction honoring Charlyn Taketa will be held over Breeders' Cup weekend at Portland Meadows. Taketa was killed in a backside accident involving a loose horse at Portland Meadows. (An obituary was printed in the September issue of TRJ.)

The Oregon Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association wants "to share the memory of Lynn and honor the wonderful person that she was." One way they are doing that is through a webpage that tells her story: http://oregontoba.com/lynntaketamemorialfund.html

Another way is by raising funds to benefit horsemen who work on the track's backside. The auction will be held on the 3rd floor of the Portland Meadows clubhouse from noon on Friday, November 4, through 5 p.m. Saturday, November 5. You can participate by making a monetary donation online, making an auction-item donation to the OTOBA (http://oregontoba.com), or making a bid on an item. Some of the items available are listed at Lynn's webpage.
