Portland Meadows kicks off its 65th season of live racing on Monday, October 17, and there’s a lot to be excited about, including the new $25,000 Ultimate ShowVivor Online Contest (see ShowVivor details below).

Portland Meadows has a new first post time of 12:00 noon, Pacific Time (PT), this season. The 55-day live racing schedule consists of racing on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from October 17th through December 2011. Live racing continues in 2012 with Monday and Wednesday race days through closing day, Wednesday, March 14th. Portland Meadows plans average daily purses in excess of $40,000.

Once again, the showcase day of the meeting is Oregon Championship Day, December 11, a special Sunday of live racing. Oregon Championship Day features five stakes races, all for the top Oregon-bred runners on the grounds.

New this season is the McFadden Memorial Claiming Series, which begins on November 2 and culminates with a $28,000 (estimated) final on December 7th. Many horsemen are gearing up for this event, which starts with a 5-furlong, $2,500 claiming race on November 2. Next in the series is a 5½-furlong, $4,000 claimer on November 16th. The horses who earn the most points in the first two races then go for the $28,000 (estimated) final on December 7, a 6-furlong event.

Portland Meadows also sports a brand new website: has been updated with a sleek new look and features biographies of regular Portland Meadows jockeys and trainers so that fans can learn about the people who compete at Portland Meadows.

Back for its third season is The Winning Ticket radio show on 750AM The Game. Track announcer Jason Beem hosts the 30 minute show that includes Portland Meadows news and highlights, including interviews with trainers, jockeys, and handicappers. Fans can stream the show live at
