Tremor Enterprises’ Separate Fire may not even need to duplicate her track-record-setting effort in the Kindergarten trials to take the $339,600 Kindergarten (G1) at Los Alamitos on Sunday night, May 22.

The 300-yard Kindergarten is the year’s first major test for 2-year olds on the West Coast.

Separate Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Septacular by Separatist) stunned American Quarter Horse racing when she made her second start in the 10 trials to the Kindergarten and erased the 300-yard track record with her :15.100 time. She pulled away to win by more than two lengths with her time being the fastest-qualifying mark by the equivalent of ½ length.

Trainer Paul Jones, winner of the 2009 Kindergarten with Revv It Up, placed Separate Fire in a Los Alamitos maiden race on April 15 and she lived up to her 2-to-5 favoritism with a ¾-length win in :15.404 for 300 yards.

Jose Trevino’s Tremor Enterprises could have a third important Grade 1-winning juvenile in three years with Separate Fire. That ownership raced 2009 champion 2-year-old colt Tempting Dash and last summer’s All American Futurity (G1) winner Mr Piloto.

Separate Fire’s sire, Walk Thru Fire, is also represented by second-fastest qualifier Fixin To Fly and third-fastest qualifier This Boogie Fires.

Danielle Hall and James Hanson’s Fixin To Fly won his maiden in his third start with a 1¾-length trial score in :15.184. The Hanson-trained gelding had raced to runner-up finishes in each of his two previous starts in maiden races.

Mike Abraham’s This Boogie Fires (Walk Thru Fire-Boogie Special by Strawfly Special) attempts to give her trainer Jaime Gomez his eighth victory in the Kindergarten. The Gomez-bred filly showed potential at first asking when she took a Los Alamitos maiden race by one length with a :15.497 time for the 300 yards. She moved forward off that race to take her Kindergarten trial by a neck over fourth-fastest qualifier Kindly Fellow (TR Dasher-Kindhearted by Separatist).

This Boogie Fires raced to a :15.191 qualifying time while Kindly Fellow clocked a :15.219 mark.

Berenisse Gonzalez’s Kindly Fellow prepared for the Kindergarten trials with a sharp length maiden score in :15.405 for trainer Jose Flores.
