Los Alamitos Race Course will host its two richest races for Thoroughbreds so far this season when runners in the $5,000 claiming rank will have an opportunity to compete in a $20,000-guaranteed race, while horses in the $4,000 claiming rank will go after a purse of $16,000-guaranteed. Both races are for 3-year-olds and older going 4˝ furlongs.

The race for $5,000 claimers will be held on Saturday, March 26, while the race for $4,000 claimers will be contested on Sunday, April 3. For both of these races, 3-year-olds will be assigned 120 pounds, with older horses carrying 123 pounds.

“We are looking forward to having some strong and very good fields of hard-knocking claimers for each of these races,” said Ron Church, the racing secretary at Los Alamitos. “We believe that a $20,000 purse for $5,000 claimers is an enticing sum for West Coast horses to chase.”

Horsemen can nominate for the March 26 race until entry time on Wednesday, March 23. Horsemen can nominate for the April 3 race until entry time on Thursday, March 31. Church will determine the starters for both races at the close of entries. For more information, call (714) 820-2788.
