Pot O Gold Futurity forced to alter traditional schedule

Because the Washington State Racing Commission has reduced the
number of racing days for the Sun Downs 2011 meet, the dates of the Pot O Gold trials and final will move from their traditional schedule. The trials will be held on Sunday, April 24, the second day of the meet. The final will be run on Sunday, May, 8, the final day of the meet.

Northern Racing Quarter Association (NRQHA) President Ginny Harding says, "The Northern realizes that the change in dates, though advantageous to some owners, presents a problem in scheduling for others.

"In researching the history and bylaws of the Northern, the Washington State Racing Commission, and even many other sanctioning organizations that require the nomination and timely sustaining payments into futurities, the decision to maintain the rule that the monies paid into the Pot O Gold remain unrefundable has been upheld by the board.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience to our members."

Harding also notes that the dates for Idaho's Bitteroot Futurity have not yet been set, but will most likely be scheduled late July or early August, which eliminates race-date conflicts with the Pot O Gold.
