Idaho State Racing Commission meets to discuss the future of Idaho racing

The Idaho State Race Commission held its first meeting of 2011 on Wednesday, January 12.

One of the first agenda items included a statement from Ken Elison, president of the Idaho Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA). "The HBPA will support any group that will bring viable live racing back to Les Bois Park," said Elison.

He also spoke of the split in the historic unity of Idaho horsemen. In an effort to appease his detractors, Elison resigned his post. "It's time for the horsemen to put their differences behind them and work together again," said Elison.

Idaho horseman Bob Schroeder took the floor to inform the commission that he is part of a group seeking investors to take over the lease at Les Bois Park. In response to Schroeder's statement, Eric Spector of Idaho Entertainment, who was in attendance by phone, told the Commission that he is still the legal leaseholder, even though it is widely known that Idaho Entertainment failed to make its annual lease payment (see
