Holidays create a lull in live race dates

Tracks around TRJ territory are giving horses, horsemen, and their own employees a few days off to celebrate the holidays.

"Celebrations" started a bit early at Los Alamitos Race Course, where torrential rains that had forced nearby Hollywood Park to cancel the majority of its races during the day also forced the cancellation of the entire Los Al card.

Although the simulcast schedule is unaffected, no live racing happens again at the oval until opening night of the 2011 season, Saturday, January 1.

Turf Paradise has changed its live/simulcast schedule for the remainder of the meet, while retaining its 156 days of live racing. The scheduled live racing card on Wednesday, December 22, has been changed to a simulcast-only day. The park is open the following day for simulcast wagering, and then is closed until Sunday, December 26, when live racing and simulcast are again available.

The "lost" live race date will be replaced with a 2011 date.

Portland Meadows hosts no live racing during the coming week. Racing resumes Monday, December 27.
