Racing dates, championship updates, breeding-prep news in December TRJ

The publisher and head writer are heading to Tucson for this year's UofA RTIP Symposium on Racing and Gaming, but not before getting the December issue of TRJ—The Racing Journal into the mail!

News from TRJ territory this month includes a feature about Breeders' Cup competitors with Pacific Northwest connections and bloodlines, including probable divisional champions Awesome Feather and Blind Luck. We also recap the overall success of the two-day BC Championship, which included generous charitable donations to equine rescue and retirement organizations.

TRJ readers who followed qualifying races all year will find pages of great photos and race coverage from the 2010 AQHA Challenge Championship finals, in addition to stories and interviews from the event.

Racing jurisdictions in TRJ territory are starting to finalize 2011 race meets, and some of those announcements open our news briefs section. We also welcome members of the Northwest Racing Quarter Horse Association, whose board has named TRJ the official magazine of the organization.

As you prepare your mares for breeding, pick up some tips from our equine health feature on best practices for breeding a mare, by Lisa Pearson, DVM, and Emmy Widman of Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

And while you're making those breeding plans, check our ads for Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse stallions—or skip the "DIY" route and check out the classified section for horses for sale. Our pages of nomination forms help you make plans for horses of all ages.

As always, we also feature results from live meets across TRJ territory, including Portland Meadows, Turf Paradise, and Los Alamitos.

In January, we'll bring you news and notes from the 2010 Symposium on Gaming and Racing, as well as more equine health news and hot racing action. To renew or begin your subscription—or to give one as a gift—visit
