MBNA America® Challenge Championships Drawing Near Sam Houston Race Park is set to host the championship weekend of American Quarter Horse racing’s richest program

Amarillo, Texas, November 5, 2004 – The 12th running of the MBNA America® Challenge Championships is just one day away, and the stage is set for the steepest competition in Challenge history that includes world champion Oak Tree Special, Prima LD, Azoom and Push The Pace.

The MBNA Challenge is American Quarter Horse racing’s richest program. A total of 71 races take place in 10 regions across the United States, Canada and Mexico throughout the year. American Quarter Horses compete in one of six different types of races, depending on their age and ability.
This weekend marks the season-ending championships with a total of six championship events and seven undercard races where MBNA Challenge enrolled horses are preferred for entry.

The MBNA America Racing Challenge is a $5 million purse and bonus awards program, of which more than 60 percent is added money from AQHA Corporate Partners and host racetracks.
The 2004 MBNA America Challenge Championships will be held at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday, November 6.

The MBNA America Challenge Championships, with five Grade 1 stakes and over $1.3 million in purses, will be televised live to over 50 million households on Saturday night.

The races will be televised on TVG and the following Fox Sports regional networks: Southwest, South, Net 2 (west coast), New York and Sunshine (tape delayed in Florida). The live programs will begin at 8 p.m. EST.

The races also will air on “America’s Horse,” AQHA’s weekly television program televised on the Outdoor Life Network, on November 21 and November 28 at 6 p.m. EST.
