South Dakota Farm Bureau to hold 93rd annual meeting

Members of the state’s largest general farm and ranch organization will gather in Pierre Nov. 19 for the 93rd annual meeting of the South Dakota Farm Bureau Federation (SDFB).

The theme for this year’s meeting is “Confronting Challenges – Creating Solutions.”

The convention continues through Nov. 20 ending with the Farm Family banquet and appreciation reception.

Keynote speaker Jolene Brown will highlight the convention with two presentations on Nov. 20: “The Facts of Life: When Family & Business Collide”; and “Who's Hiding the Humor?”

Brown is a nationally renowned speaker who uses humor to help her audiences laugh while they learn. She is a passionate supporter, promoter and champion for the people who feed, clothe and fuel the world.

Brown is on a mission to share leading-edge best practices that have the power to increase productivity, profitability and peace of mind.

Environmental regulations affecting agriculture will be covered from both the state and national levels.

In addition, delegates will set policy for the organization for the coming year and elect three new board members to replace retiring board members Russ Hurlbert, Raymond, S.D., Don Kelly, Wall, S.D. and Bob Ode, Brandon, S.D.

The Young Farmers and Ranchers committee is sponsoring three competitions for young producers and hosting a fun night” event featuring games and fellowship.

The women’s leadership team will present “Challenges in Partnership” including a Save Our Farm Youth (SOFY) demonstration.

They are also hosting a vesper service and sponsoring a collection to support Feeding South Dakota community food banks.
