The NRQHA Board meets Wednesday, November 3, at the Sports Page in downtown Kennewick at 7:00 p.m. Part of the discussion will address the opening of Sun Downs under management of a horsemen's group. The facility will be open for training this fall.

Four men formed a corporation to operate the county facility: Malon Cowgill, Bob Lawrence, Warren Luke, and Scott Dacyk. They worked closely with the County Commissioners all summer to finalize the deal.

NRQHA member Ginny Harding says the track will be run "with Horsemen's concerns the priority! The track will be worked each day, keeping the surface safe for our athletes; the stall rent will be kept at an affordable rate for everyone; and the track will be open for training soon giving many of our local horsemen a solid base for preparing their youngsters for the early Futurities of 2011."

She will provide updates after the board meeting, but also has a reminder of Northwest horsepeople: "We're compiling our list of stallions for our 2011 annual Stallion Auction, and I would love to hear from you as to any stallions you may like to see on our roster. This stallion auction is what keeps our racing alive here in Eastern Washington, and it's the only source of added moneys for our Futurity and QH races, as well as the major source of funds to help our youth through college scholarships the last few years."

Ginny concludes, "So please give us some input--before you make a decision on a stallion, let me know which ones you're interested in and I will do my best to once again and depend on the generosity of the stallion connections to help us out!"
