Top analysts set for Breeders’ Cup Handicapping Summit on championships eve at Churchill Downs

Breeders’ Cup fans will have an exciting opportunity to tap into the knowledge, experience and insight of a panel of top racing analysts and handicappers at the first “Breeders’ Cup Handicapping Summit – Your Ticket To Win,” scheduled at Churchill Downs on the eve of the two-day Breeders' Cup World Championships set for November 5-6.

Presented by and Daily Racing Form, the Breeders’ Cup Handicapping Summit is scheduled for Thursday, November 4, from approximately 6:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (all times Eastern Time). The event, designed to appeal to racing fans of all ages, follows the Thursday racing program at Churchill Downs and will be held in the Trophy Room on the fifth floor of the Clubhouse.

The Breeders’ Cup Handicapping Summit will provide an exciting start to a fabulous weekend of racing, and truly is a ticket to win for the attendees as they analyze the big events that will be run during the most challenging days of handicapping and wagering in American racing."

Summit tickets are limited and priced at $50 per person. They can be purchased at Churchill Downs’ online ticket office at, or at the on-track box office at Gate 1, off Central Avenue. Along with evening’s discussion of the 14 Breeders’ Cup races by the panel of experts and analysts, a ticket to the Summit includes a buffet dinner, a box seat for Thursday’s races at Churchill Downs, and racing information from both and Daily Racing Form. Doors open to the Summit at 6:00 p.m. and the buffet dinner will be served until 7:15 p.m.

  • Mark Johnson, Churchill Downs’ announcer
  • Byron King, DRF Kentucky handicapper
  • Mike Maloney, a Lexington-based professional horseplayer
  • James Scully, editor-in-chief of’s Bloodstock Journal and Handicapper’s Edge
  • Bryan Wagner, winner of the National Handicapping Championship Tour in 2009
  • Mike Watchmaker, DRF national handicapper
  • Mike Welsch, DRF Florida handicapper and workout expert

John Asher, vice president of racing communications at Churchill Downs, will serve as the panel’s moderator.
