For the first time in its 113-year history, Fort Erie Race Track in Fort Erie, Ontario, is sponsoring a series of races for Quarter Horses. Until now, the track has featured Thoroughbred racing exclusively.

Beginning October 2, and continuing for the next three Saturdays, the Fort Erie card will include AQHA-sanctioned races, including races in the Bank of America Challenge series. On the final Saturday and again on Sunday, October 24, the track will offer a mixed-breed race open to both Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds, for a total of 38 QH or mixed-breed races in all.

“We’re really excited to introduce the excitement of Quarter Horse racing to historic Fort Erie Race Track,” said Darrell Hare, Director of Racing Challenge. “We know that fans from both sides of the border can expect great racing action, and we invite horsemen and horsewomen everywhere to come join the fun.”

All races are open to registered American Quarter Horses from all jurisdictions. Fort Erie management has created a fact sheet that includes information about travel to and racing in Ontario as well links to the condition book and other useful sites. That information is available at http://www.forterieracing.com/quarter.htm.
