Thoroughbred purses increased once again at Los Alamitos

Los Alamitos Race Course has announced its highest ever purses for Thoroughbreds following its third purse increase of the meet effective with the Friday, August 13 program. Purses for all Thoroughbred levels—Los Alamitos Race Course hosts races for $2,000 to $5,000 claimers at 4 ˝ furlongs—have been raised with some receiving increases as high as 14.7%.

Races for $3,200 claimers will now offer a $9,600 purse, an increase of $1,200 or 14.2% from the previous $8,400 figure.

Thoroughbreds in the $2,500 level will enjoy a 14.7% increase with the new purse figure now set at $8,600 per race.

Races for open $5,000 claimers now feature a juicy purse of $16,000—up $1,000 from the previous amount of $15,000.

Conditioned $5,000 claimers will now race for $13,000—an 8% increase from the previous $12,000 purse.

Thoroughbreds in the $4,000 claiming rank received a 10% increase and will now run for $11,000.

$2,000 claimers will race for $7,500.

Purses for maidens are at $10,000 for $5,000 claimers and $7,500 for $2,500 claimers.


“We are proud and excited to offer our biggest Thoroughbred purses ever,” said Ron Church, the racing secretary at Los Alamitos. “We have great appreciation for our Thoroughbred participants and they are an integral part of our racing program at Los Alamitos Race Course.”

Los Alamitos Race Course is currently racing on a Friday through Sunday night basis.
