A wide cross-section of horsemen gathered this morning for a five-hour meeting at the Doubletree Riverside in Boise, Idaho. Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse owners and trainers from western and eastern Idaho were given the opportunity to voice their ideas and concerns about the proposed contract between Idaho Entertainment (IE), the leaseholder for Les Bois Park (renamed Idaho Downs by IE), and the Idaho HBPA, who represents the horsemen in contract negotiations.

Horsemen also expressed their opinions about how to move forward with negotiations. The Idaho HBPA and IE have been trying to come to agreement on a contract for more than a year, during which time the racetrack has been closed both for live racing and simulcasting.

Before the meeting concluded, several horsemen representing various statewide groups were elected to join the Idaho HBPA’s negotiating team. The horsemen expect this expanded team to help bridge the impasse between the two sides.
