In an attempt to demonstrate to Idaho Entertainment (IE) principals that the horsemen of Idaho are united in their desire for a fair and equitable agreement with IE, the Idaho HBPA has scheduled a meeting with horsemen to solicit input for a proposed contract.

The Idaho HBPA plans to discuss its proposed contract in detail with the attendees. The meeting provides horsemen with the opportunity to voice their ideas and concerns and to get involved in the process.

The Idaho HBPA and IE have been trying to come to agreement on a contract for more than a year, during which time Les Bois Park (renamed Idaho Downs by IE) has been closed for both live racing and simulcasting. Since November 2009, several contract versions have circulated, all of which have been rejected by either the Idaho HBPA or IE.

In their efforts to keep negotiations active, the Idaho HBPA, over the past several months, has offered to go to mediation and to arbitration, but IE blocked both offers. The most recent effort by the Idaho HBPA to continue negotiations was to send an Idaho HBPA representative to Del Mar, California, to negotiate in person with IE. According to the Idaho HBPA, IE "refused to negotiate."

The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, August 7, at 8:00 a.m. at the Doubletree Riverside, 2900 W. Chinden Blvd., Boise, Idaho.

Horsemen interested in attending the meeting are urged to contact Idaho HBPA Secretary Bobbi Watts (939-0650, or 867-5858) by Monday, August 2, so that the Idaho HBPA can get an accurate head count.
