Multiple stakes winner Shem has been installed as the morning line co-favorite in a field of nine runners who have entered the $50,000 Portland Mile to be run on Wednesday April 28. Mario Gutierrez will ship down from his Hastings Racecourse base to ride Shem in the Portland Mile for trainer Pat Jarvis. Shem, who has drawn post five, comes off a narrow win in an Invitational Handicap back on April 7, where he prevailed by just a nose over Tillmanís Image. Tillmanís Image is also entered into the Mile and will break from post nine under jockey Marijo Terleski.

Saratogaís Magic has been entered by trainer Jerry Hollendorfer for the Mile. While he hasnít been in the winnerís circle since August of 2008, Saratogaís Magic has been competing against solid allowance level runners at Golden Gate Fields and has proven in his form that he runs better over traditional surfaces than on the artificial surface at Golden Gate Fields. Portland Meadows leading rider Joe Crispin takes the mount on Saratogaís Magic, who has drawn post #2.

Numaany will also ship down to run in the Portland Mile and is looking to take his current win streak to four as he will make his seasonal debut in the Mile. Numaany is proven at marathon distances, so while he is being asked to go one mile and one eighth in his seasonal bow, distance has never been a problem for him before. Frank Fuentes will come down from his Hastings base to ride Numaany.

Heading up the local contingent of entrants are the Jonathan Nance-trained pair Coronas At Delmar and Delaware Doe. Neither horse has ever tasted defeat at Portland Meadows with Coronas At Delmar a perfect five for five here, and Delaware Doe is an impressive four for four locally. Luis Torres has been the regular rider for both horses and elected to take the mount on Delaware Doe, while Juan Gutierrez will ride Coronas At Delmar. Nance has also entered Overtime Victory in the Mile, who will be ridden by last seasonís leading rider, Debbie Hoonan-Trujillo.

Stealth Attack and Primary Notice round out the field for the Portland Mile. Stealth Attack has been a regular here at Portland Meadows over the years and always seems to put in a good rally. Primary Notice will be ridden by Inoel Beato, who has been riding at Emerald Downs and is off to a fast start there. Primary Notice has been competing mostly in the lower level claiming ranks at Golden Gate, but is certainly in good form and could be a contender at a price.

The $50,000 Portland Mile has been carded as the eighth race on Wednesday April 28, 2010, and post time for the race is approximately 3:56 p.m.
