The year 2009 was a good year for fillies in futurity action at Los Alamitos. Fillies won the Grade 1 runnings of the Ed Burke Million Futurity, PCQHRA Breeders Futurity, and Golden State Million Futurity and Governor's Cup Futurity. One of those futurity winning fillies is Jumpn Beduino, last year's heroine in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity.

Owned by Ed and Theresa DeNike, the daughter of Chicks Beduino out of PCQHRA Champion Broodmare Imjumpn, will be making her first start of 2010 when she headlines the trials to the $175,500 La Primera Del Ano Derby on Saturday night March 20 at Los Alamitos. Two trials will be contested with the 10 fastest qualifiers moving on to the derby final on April 10.

A filly is guaranteed to win the La Primera as this race is strictly for the princesses of Quarter Horse racing. In addition to the Pat Visscher-trained Jumpn Beduino, who will be in action in the first of two trials, other top names competing on Saturday night will be Three H Racing's multiple futurity finalist Brazilian Dasher and Robert Gentry's Fovee, who ran third to top boys Good Reason SA and Apollitical Jess in last year's Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Fovee is the marquee name in the first of two trials.

Cartier Cartel, who was second in a trial to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity last year, will also see action in this trial. Brazilian Dasher, a half-sister to champion FDD Dynasty, figures to be Jumpn Beduino's main threat.
