A rematch of accomplished American Quarter Horses is set for the $29,880 Red Cell West/Southwest Distance Challenge on August 8 at Arapahoe Park. Leading the field of nine runners in the 870-yard race are Victorysgotalotahope and 10-year-old Runbyu, who finished first and second respectively in the $17,190 Red Cell Northwest Distance Challenge on July 18 at Wyoming Downs. A nose separated the pair at the finish, while another of their Arapahoe rivals, Bye Bye Dasher, ran fifth in the race.

Victorysgotalotahope, a 4-year-old gelding by Shazoom, races for Shauna Edwards and Mark Loebner of Portland, Oregon, and is trained by Bill Hoburg. With his victory at Wyoming Downs, the gelding earned a berth in the $125,000 Red Cell Racing Challenge Distance Championship (G1) during the 17th Bank of America Racing Challenge Championships on October 31 at Los Alamitos in California. The West/Southwest winner (or the runner-up if Victorysgotalotahope wins) also receives a berth to the rich race.

Other starters in the West/Southwest Distance Challenge include Weber, who won the 2008 West/Southwest Distance Challenge by a neck over Runbyu, and Bad Act, winner of the 2007 Bull Rastus Handicap at Los Alamitos. Bad Act is coming off an 870-yard victory at Arapahoe on July 4 in which he defeated Victorysgotalotahope, Weber and another West/Southwest Distance Challenge rival, Tee Zevi. In 2007, Bad Act was second to champion Snowbound Superstar in the $100,000 Red Cell Distance Challenge Championship at Los Alamitos.

The field, in post position order with jockeys, is: Bad Act, Adan Fuentes; Heza Streak 276, Fernando Camacho; Legal Runaway, Vernon Scantling; Buzzed On Bud, Alfonso Fuentes; Runbyu, Russ Vicchrilli; Victorysgotalotahope, William Ives; Tee Zevi, Jose Barajas; Bye Bye Dasher, Jose Torres; and Weber, Mark Boag. All starters will carry 124 pounds.

Hoburg also will send out Legal Runaway, who will make his 870-yard debut in the race. The 6-year-old Illegal Runaway gelding is coming off a fourth-place finish behind Snip N Dale in the $62,010 Bank of America Northwest Championship Challenge (G3) on July 18 at Wyoming Downs.

The West/Southwest Distance Challenge is the eighth race on the nine-race card at Arapahoe. Post time for the race is 3:55 p.m. Mountain Time.
