Live and simulcast horse racing will continue at Ada County’s Les Bois Park through December 2013 under an agreement signed on Wednesday by the Board of Ada County Commissioners and Idaho Entertainment, LLC. Idaho Entertainment, LLC, is a company jointly owned by Oneida Capital headquartered in Carlsbad, California, and Plainfield Racing, headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut.

The companies operate Wyoming Downs in Evanston, Wyoming, and Montana Downs in Great Falls, Montana, as well as simulcasting outlets in many cities throughout Wyoming and Montana. Idaho Entertainment’s first action item was to rename the track . . . Les Bois Park will now be known as “Idaho Downs at Idaho Expo.”

“I guess the old saying is true, good things do come to those who wait,” said Ada County Commission Chairman Fred Tilman. “We did our homework and feel very comfortable that Eric Spector and his staff at Idaho Entertainment are the right team of professionals to breathe new life into horseracing in the Treasure Valley. We wish them much success in the years to come.”

The Board of Commissioners had to seek a new operator for Les Bois Park when former tenant Capitol Racing notified the county earlier this year that the company intended to vacate its lease.

Under the terms of the agreement, Idaho Entertainment is required to make annual lease payments of $75,000 to Ada County. Beginning on January 1, 2010, Ada County also stands to make one-half-of-one-percent of the total handle exceeding $12 million.

The next step for Idaho Entertainment is to obtain its state licenses, not only with the Idaho State Racing Commission, but with the Idaho State Alcohol Beverage Control. Idaho Entertainment must also reach an agreement with the Idaho Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, the local horsemen’s group.
