Erin Ryder of thehorse.com unearthed this tidbit:
More than 100 people have been arrested at Appleby Fair in Cumbria, U.K., an annual horse trading event, according to an article at Mirror.co.uk.

Most of the arrests were for "drunkenness, drugs, and disorder," the report noted. Sunday, June 7, topped the weeklong event with 27 arrests, as two gangs reportedly clashed.

Additionally, police seized cocaine, marijuana, 127 guns, and 100 whips over the course of the event, which began on June 4 and ends on June 10.

Organizer Kevin Douglas told Mirror.co.uk that security was increased this year in partnership with charities, including the Royal Sociaety for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

"Our goal is to return it to a traditional horse fair that is enjoyable and safe," Douglas said.
