Trainer Monty Arrossa and jockey Zacharie Kelsey had the top qualifier to the Gem County Futurity in trials held on Saturday, April 18. Candy For Eyein You, the 2-year-old grey gelding by Eye Yin You out of Connemara Girl (by Corona Cartel), posted the day's best time at :15.474, good for a 102 speed index over 300 yards.

The Arrossa/Kelsey team also had the fourth-best qualifier—De Great Cartel—and the seventh-best qualifier—Hummers Long Summer.

Trainer Brent Bowman and jockey Aaron Shaw qualified two to the eight-horse-gate final, with Shake Em Zevi and Picking Up Chicks capturing the second- and third-best times, respectively. The team just missed a possible third entry, with Shake Em Silver finishing just eight one-thousandths of a second (:.008) behind eighth qualifier DSW Special Babe.

In the Gem County Derby trials, Bowman and Shaw had the fastest qualifier in BCR Strawflyin Doll, who covered the 330 yards in :17.126, and also had the sixth qualifier—Just A Rumor.

Not to be outdone, trainer Chet Child qualified two to the Derby—Kipabo and Slowski.

The Gem County Futurity and Gem County Derby finals are scheduled for this Sunday, April 26. Post time is 1:00 p.m.
