Jockey Jennifer Schmidt, the young, Midwestern jockey whose story was featured in the November issue of The Racing Journal, and her family have been dealt a hard blow this holiday season. Schmidt, home to Shalersville/Ravenna, Ohio, for the holidays, and her family were surprised by a fire that tore through their home as they tended to regular chores in the barn. The fire did not reach the barn and the Schmidts's horses, but they all mourn the loss of their pets.

Monetary donations and donations of riding tack and jockey equipment are welcome. Contact the Schmidts at dustycookies@yahoo.com or at 8291 Peck Rd, Ravenna, OH 44266. According to Su Schmidt, "Even though we are 'homeless' we can still say we have a farm."
