Jockey Club of Canada Announces Sovereign Award Winners

The Jockey Club of Canada announced the winners of the 33rd Annual Sovereign Awards on Friday, December 14, at the InterContinental Toronto Centre.

Sealy Hill won Horse of the Year, Champion Female Turf Horse and Champion 3-Year-Old Filly prizes for owner Eugene Melnyk, whose Melnyk Racing Stables, Inc., was named Outstanding Owner in Canada. In addition, Sealy Hill helped her trainer, Mark Casse, and jockey, Patrick Husbands, win Sovereign Awards in their respective categories.

  • Outstanding Jockey: Patrick Husbands

  • Outstanding Apprentice Jockey: Tyler Pizarro

  • Outstanding Trainer: Mark Casse

  • Outstanding Owner in Canada: Melnyk Racing Stables, Inc.

  • Outstanding Breeder: Adena Springs

  • Outstanding Broodmare: Lover’s Talk

  • Champion 2-Year-Old Filly: Dancing Allstar

  • Champion 2-Year-Old Male: Kodiak Kowboy

  • Champion 3-Year-Old Filly: Sealy Hill

  • Champion 3-Year-Old Male: Alezzandro

  • Champion Older Female on The Main Track: Financingavailable

  • Champion Older Male Horse on The Main Track: True Metropolitan

  • Champion Sprinter: Financingavailable

  • Champion Male Turf Horse: Cloudy’s Knight

  • Champion Female Turf Horse: Sealy Hill

  • Horse of the Year: Sealy Hill
