$1 Million Travers Stakes to air August 28 on special 2-hour “Sportscenter at the Travers”

NTRA--A special two-hour “SportsCenter at the Travers,” featuring live coverage of the $1 million, Grade I Travers Stakes from Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., will air from 5:00-7:00 p.m. ET on August 28 on ESPN, it was announced by the network, the New York Racing Association (NYRA) and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA). ESPN will offer the telecast in high definition on ESPN HD.

In addition to the Travers, the program will include live coverage of two other major races from Saratoga, the Grade I, $250,000 King’s Bishop Stakes and the Grade II, $200,000 Fourstardave Handicap. All three races are important stepping stones on the Road to the World Thoroughbred Championships. Scheduled post time for the Fourstardave, a 1 1/16-miles turf race for older horses, is 5:11 p.m. ET; the King's Bishop, a seven-furlong event for 3-year-olds, is set for 5:55 p.m. ET; and the Travers, run at the classic distance of 1 ¼-miles for 3-year-olds, is slated for 6:25 p.m. ET.

The Travers is part of the Breeders’ Cup Classic Division – Powered by Dodge, the King’s Bishop is part of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint Division and the Fourstardave is part of the NetJets Mile Division.

Hosting the action from Saratoga will be Kenny Mayne, joined by racing analyst Randy Moss, reporters Jeannine Edwards and Kurt Hoover, and the voice of New York racing, Tom Durkin.

The NTRA is a broad-based coalition of horseracing interests, including the American Quarter Horse Association, charged with increasing popularity of horseracing and improving economic conditions for industry participants. The NTRA and Breeders’ Cup Limited also administer the Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, Thoroughbred racing’s year-end Championships consisting of eight races and $14 million in purses and awards and the Breeders’ Cup Stakes Program.
