The Sky’s the Limit for Prairie Meadows’s Lady Blue Sky

A 5-year-old mare trained by Don Roberson used the recently ended Thoroughbred meet at Prairie Meadows to extend her winning streak to nine consecutive races, the second-longest in the nation.

On Independence Day, the final day of that meet, Lady Blue Sky under Terry Thompson romped to a 4½-length lead in a 5½-furlong optional claiming event. (And, no, she wasn’t in for a tag!) That takes her tally to seven-for-seven in 2007, and extends the nine-race win streak she began in 2006.

Over the span, Lady Blue Sky has won one race at each of six tracks—Hoosier Park, Charles Town, Fair Grounds, Delta Downs, Evangeline Downs, and Indiana Downs— and three races at Prairie Meadows.

The winning ride—one of three on the day—also helped Thompson clinch the riders’ title for the meet. Thompson edged out Glenn Corbett, who finished in front of Tim Doocy. Roberson completed the meet with nine wins, two seconds, and two thirds in 21 starts (21-9-2-2)

The Racing Journal was unable to reach Roberson to ask his plans for the mare. Watch the entries for the Prairie Meadows mixed meet, beginning July 10, to see if this mare makes her next start at this venue.
