California-bred Summer Sensation won the $46,746 Journal Handicap at Northlands Park on Saturday, June 23.

Summer Sensation, by Siberian Summer, out of the Candiís Gold mare Candiís Star, was bred by Michael Power and is owned by Don and Darcy Hawkes, Terry Olmstead and Hooter Ville Stable. He has five wins in seven starts and earnings of $60,855.

Ridden to victory by jockey Ron Blinston, Summer Sensation ran the 6Ĺ furlongs in 1:18 and won by one-half length at odds of 6-to-1. Fellow Cal-bred Plagiarist, under Rickey Walcott, was second, and Tiger Energy, with Real Simard up, took third.
